1. Remove everything from the room and start with a blank canvas. While that is the advice, I was not able to remove everything in the room. Instead, I sat on the bed and looked around, determining how to arrange it in a way that allowed more light in and how I could make it feel light and airy.
2. The bed. The bed had to be placed in a way that it was not facing any doors or windows yet you can easily see the door. You should not sleep under a window because it can zap your energy. The supporting wall of the bed needs to be solid. Make sure any mirrors in your room do not reflect your bed.
My headboard was hard and heavy and I had a lot of wood in the room, so I removed the headboard and opted for the wall as a headboard. Later I would like to have a soft headboard, but for now no headboard was an improvement. According to Feng Shui. a sturdy headboard is a must.
3. The windows. The windows need to be draped in something light and soft. I found the perfect curtains at the Family Dollar Store. Total cost for two windows: $20.00. They are a light beige, symbolic of the earth element.
4. Remove the clutter. The main clutter were clothes. I went through all of my clothes and bagged the winter clothes and separately bagged the clothes I could no longer wear. There is no sense in letting them keep residence if I cannot wear them. But I did keep a bathing suit as an incentive to lose weight. As for the rest, I can pull them out in a year and see if I can wear them. I hope so. In a year's time, I should lose all of the weight I have gained.
5. Thoroughly clean. I mean move every single item in your room and clean under it. It is amazing how many cobwebs can accumulate by leaving a piece furniture in one location. Sweep the walls, sweep the floors, and mop. Not only will your room look great when you finish, it will also smell great.
6. Move items to discourage storage of clothes, etc. My big dresser was located on a wall that no one could see. It was the perfect place to pile clothes and other items. I moved it so that anyone visiting can easily see a clear, cleaned-off dresser top. There should be very little if anything on the dresser. The only ornament I have is a red plant in a clear glass with water. The plant color is reddish-pink, symbolic of fire in Feng Shui, one of the five elements necessary for a yen bedroom.
7. Nightstands. Nightstands anchor the bed. It is important that they are not cluttered. Having a picture, glass of water, or moisturizer is all that is needed. While this is true, I still have to have my alarm clock, phone, and light on the night stand. All are electric, another no-no, but a necessity to today's life.
8. Include the 5 elements of yen or Feng Shui. Feng Shui has 5 elements, they are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Colors or objects can be used, or a combination.
Colors
Fire = red, orange, purple, pink, or vivid yellow
Earth = light yellow or beige
Wood = brown or green
Metal = gray or white
Water = blue or black
For my bedroom, I used the reddish-pink flower for the fire and water. I had a lot of browns of the wood and light green for the walls so wood is definitely represented in my room. For the earth, I have beige in my quilt and in my curtains. For the metal, there is white trimming on the walls and I have actual metal in my night stand lights. The last element is water with either blue or black coloring. For that I have black curtain rods and black metal lamps. I also have the water in the plant.
9. Remove all electronics. This I could not do. I have a TV behind wooden armour doors, lamps, lights, radio, clock and fan--all electric. As I mentioned earlier, it is a necessity to today's life.
I don't think anyone has a total yen bedroom, meeting all the requirements. But I also think that once you have it as best as you can, you can feel a different energy in the room. I know I did. It elated me. I could have danced in circles, I was so happy with its results.
I have to tell you, I cannot believe the difference in the feel of energy in my bedroom. I walk by the door and cannot help be drawn in. It simply brings a smile to my face and pleasure to my heart. Lovin' it! Who knew it would have such an impact?! Maybe I should do this to all of the rooms!!
