An Angel Painting
Here is the completed angel painting. I figured out the face, and feel it came out beautifully. The hands, I really had a hard time with them. The best site I could find was http://www.drawninblack.com/2009/10/how-to-draw-hands-35-tutorials-how-tos-step-by-steps-videos-studies-poses-and-photo-references/. This site is wonderful because it gives you many different hand positions.
I do hope my friend whom this painting is for enjoys it immensely and it provides them with many prayers and blessings!!

Angel Paintings
I decided I wanted to do an angel for my friend whose husband was diagnosed with lymphoma. I wanted to make sure I used colors that represented power, strength, and health. I chose purple because it means spirituality, blue means peace, tranquility, harmony, unity, and stability, green means health, gray means security,
Next I tried to figure out how I wanted the painting be done and what I would include. The obvious is an angel. I loved the idea, but I wanted colors to represent all good things and most importantly good health. I figured the best way to do that would be through using the colors in the wings and in the dress.
First I used gesso on the canvas to provide a base. Then I did the landscape of clouds. I changed it to stripes, and then settled on the ones that I have. I wanted it to radiate power and strength.
The third layer would be the angel. I would do the wings first and then the face and hands. It took me two hours to just do the wings. But when I finally finished, oh my, I loved them! The colors were perfect, the blending, the feathers, all of it I was totally in love with.
Next the hands, face, and globe of power. I might even add a person praying at the bottom... not sure yet. Not quite sure how to do any of those. I am thinking I need to use a fine tip paint marker so that I can make the tiny details of the hands and face and to look up some tutorials. It will be more like drawing I think than painting, but I don't know of any other way.
This is my painting so far.
Then my husband crushed my world. I was so excited to show him the painting and when I did, he said, "The wings are more like a butterfly than an angel." Oh man! Back to the drawing board, so to speak. I had to find some images so I could figure out how to do the wings right. Google time! After all, I wanted it to look realistic but yet have my own colorful flair to it. This was for my friend, it had to be just right!!
I did the clouds, practiced drawing an angel and then lightly penciled in the outline of the wings and dress of my angel. From there, I decided the colors and which order they were going to go in, and voila, this is what I have so far! Much, much better!! Still need to do the eyes on both of the paintings. On this one, I think I will also add some stars, despite the fact that it is daylight. My stars I am thinking if using the bright colors of the angel--green, blue, and purple with a main focus on the green since that means good health. The color choices would make them easier to be seen in the clouds.
Baskets, Baskets, and more Baskets!!
I was fortunate to meet a wonderful lady named Diane. She loves to cook and as such has created a cookbook of country cooking. In addition, she sells items for a friend named Jonus. He makes beautifully scrolled baskets. The cool thing, the impressive thing is that they can be pull up to be baskets or can be laid flat to create a hot plate or to easily store! I wish all of my centerpieces had that kind of flexibility!! That's pretty ingenious. Jonus uses oak or tulip popular as his basic woods. For an additional fee, he will upgrade the wood by using rich, dark walnut or truly exquisite purple heart wood. The latter looks purple, absolutely beautiful!! As for the designs, I had no idea that there could be so many. Here's a list: apple, bicycle, bread basket, butterfly, cat and mouse, Christmas tree, cow, deer, duck (2 design choices), eagle, fish, 5-point star, frog, fruit basket, heart, horse, horseshoe, maple leaf, moon, owl, pig, pinwheel, rabbit, rooster, shamrock, teapot, wolf, 6-petal lotus, and 8-petal lotus. A total of 30 exquisite designs are available. Here's some pics and the link to the store. http://shop.decorgaloremore.com/BASKETS_c58.htm
Made from rich chocolate walnut. Its shine and grains are enhanced using regular cooking oils. That way it remains food safe.
Here's a bread basket using tulip popular. Notice it gives the wood a yellowish coloring.
Jonus also does mixed woods. Here is a sample of oak and purple heart woods mixed to create a beautiful-looking 6-lotus basket.
Gotta love the pig! The pig itself is made from the chocolate walnut with a base of oak. In fact, I have noticed that most of the bases are made from oak.
Here's another sample of walnut, 6-lotus basket.
This fruit basket is made from oak with oodles of goodies inside. The goodies are not included; they are there to give you an idea. Of course, it could be fruit and other "healthy" goodies as well. :)
Perfect for giving that special teacher a gift or for people who love apple decor!!
